We're Growing!

Asheville Academy for Girls, a licensed and accredited therapeutic program focused exclusively on girls ages 10 to 14 in North Carolina, has announced that they will be moving campuses in January 2017. Just 30 minutes away from their current location, the new campus will be set on an expansive property and include brand new recreation and multipurpose space, lakefront activity options, and plenty of room for the many animals that the girls have grown to love.

"This is such an exciting time for our community," says Cat Jennings, Executive Director of Asheville Academy for Girls (AAG). "We are busily preparing extensive updates to our new campus before our arrival which will offer even more opportunities for our young girls to grow, learn, play and thrive."

AAG is putting a lot of planning into the actual move to make it as least disruptive as possible for students. Students will be involved in the creation and planning of aspects of the new campus. Parents and professionals will be able to track the progress through Facebook postings and other online updates. To view the current plan and a video showing the ongoing changes for the new campus, visit our page here.

"As always, our girls are our highest priority," ensures Cat, "and we are doing everything possible to ensure this move is seamless and exciting for our families."

The 97-acre campus will include: a brand new recreation and multipurpose building; a small private lake for watersports and boating; full playground; indoor and outdoor basketball courts; yoga cabin; multiple trails for hiking, biking and camping; family-style living residences; and ample space for animals.

Students will help to build coops for the chickens, enclosed areas for the goats, and put together living spaces for the bunnies and Ruby Sue, the much adored potbelly pig. "The girls have already been on the property for excursions and overnights," explains Cat, "and we believe this will help them become even more comfortable with, and feel more connected to, their new environment."

While the new location offers a multiple of exciting opportunities, the program itself will remain consistent. "The high level of quality clinical, academic and emotional care that our girls and their families experience using our current treatment model will not be impacted," says Mary Flora, MBA, MA, LPC, LCAS, and Clinical Director. "We will be able to use our expanded campus resources to develop even more programming specifically tailored to young girls--further enhancing their AAG experience. All in all, we could not have asked for a better outcome in this stage of our growth as an organization."
