Dear Friends of Asheville Academy for Girls and Solstice East,

I truly hope that this email finds you well. What an incredible journey this last year has been for our two programs! We have done a huge amount of work, and think it's helpful to take a look at just how far we've come! To recap, in the last 12 months at Asheville Academy and Solstice East, we have:
  • Finalized the completion of the Summit building, which added 12 office spaces for therapy, psychiatry and academics-along with a multi-use conference room.
  • Received AdvancEd/SACS accreditation, which certifies our academic programming.
  • Increased Asheville Academy's clinical services to meet RTC standards.
  • Constructed a new residence building for Asheville Academy, which has allowed Solstice East to have its own residence.
  • Renovated upstairs rooms and living space in the Solstice East residence.
  • Received state licensure through the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
  • Begun the 6-month countdown towards CARF accreditation.
  • Rolled out an entirely new phase system for Asheville Academy based on the Archetypal Hero's Journey.
  • Provided life-changing support to over 125 girls and their families.
Whew! I give all of the credit for these accomplishments to our incredible team, as every single individual on our campus has contributed to the successes listed above.

As we have grown, it has become more and more apparent just how important the concepts of relationship and play are to not only our students but also our staff at Asheville Academy and Solstice East. With the many responsibilities associated with the above tasks, it has become increasingly difficult for me to manage two successful businesses that are only continuing in their growth-while maintaining the necessary level of personal contact.

With this in mind, the Asheville Academy ownership team has decided to invite Cat Jennings, a seasoned veteran-who is an expert in the field of pre-adolescent therapeutic treatment-onto our team. Cat will be taking on the role of Executive Director over Asheville Academy for Girls, which will allow me to focus back in on my role as Executive Director of Solstice East (as well as a couple of other little projects that I will be working on over the coming months). While sad to think of spending less time with the Asheville Academy team, I can't express how excited I am to return my full focus back on the Solstice East students and staff! Allowing each program to have a dedicated executive director will allow us to provide even more individualized care and relationship-driven intervention.

A few bits of information that may be helpful for you to know:
  • Cat has over 20 years of experience operating programs in our field.
  • Cat's primary goal is to provide an expert eye to consider how we can make Asheville Academy for Girls even better.
  • We will be sharing this information with Asheville Academy students and families in an email this evening, and meeting with them in person tomorrow morning at the beginning of our family seminar.
  • Solstice East and Asheville Academy will remain closely connected as a team-with the intent to grow and continue improving the services we offer.

We are excited about the increased opportunities for training, relationship, play, and success that Cat will bring to the Asheville Academy team, as well as the opportunity I will have to re-engage more closely on a daily basis with the students and staff at Solstice East! Please be sure to drop by and welcome Cat to our team the next time you are in the Asheville area. You will likely find her in the trenches working directly with staff and students, or may stumble upon her in my office as we work to maintain and improve upon the great teamwork that has grown to define Asheville Academy and Solstice East!

Should you have any questions regarding this exciting addition to our team, please feel free to contact me directly (see contact info below), or you can reach out to Cat Jennings at: cat@ashevilleacademy.com or 828-772-7200.

Warm Regards,

Kyle Gillett
