Dr. Vaughn Heath and Dr. Ken Newell are pleased to announce the opening of the Arise program, a fully integrated College-support program for young adults. This program is located at the Utah Valley University. The Arise program works with young adults to support success during college. This program provides an integration with other college students, where roommates and college activities are typical of any campus setting.

Through a partnership with college-housing property owners, the Arise program uses the physical space of student-housing as a means to integrate young adults into the college culture and move successfully through the next step of their lives.

Dr. Vaughn Heath, who cofounded The Second Nature Wilderness Programs states, “When we established our wilderness program, we understood that providing a physical space of wilderness was key to the student’s success”. We believe that a culture of college support begins with a living space that is not segregated away from the college itself.” Our desire is to have influence on college life right from the ground up. By having access to the college-housing facilities, we are able to manage everything from roommate issues, to where parties and other activities happen.”

Dr. Newell was a partner in the Second Nature Program at Clayton, Georgia. From a long-standing relationship, both Dr. Heath and Dr. Newell share the same vision - that motivation for success largely depends on the connection and culture that students live within.

The Arise program works with families and students who have made progress in traditional or other supportive environments, and who are ready to take the next step through academics. We understand that each student may have weaknesses that could undermine their college experience. To this end we assess and find unique support within our on-site culture.
