Alpine Academy is owned by Utah Youth Village, a non-profit organization that has been serving children and families for nearly 35 years. “Utah Youth Village is the largest and one of the most highly respected treatment facilities in Utah, providing treatment to over 750 children in 2001. It is the only residential treatment program invited to participate in the opening and closing ceremonies at the 2002 Winter Olympics.”

Alpine Academy is a completely separate program that only serves the private sector. They began accepting students on January 7, 2002. This residential treatment home in an “upscale, rural community” accepts girls ranging in age from 13 – 17. Typical students are experiencing emotional and behavioral problems which may include: depression, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Bi-polar Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder, low self- esteem, academic/behavioral problems, eating disorders, and adoption issues.

The Academy provides accredited private school education with small class sizes and academic plans tailored to student needs. “Students may have individualized educational programs such as student- specific study at the university level, and specialized educational programs as needed.”

Offering a small, family style environment, emphasizing individualized treatment and academic excellence, it provides a “comprehensive therapeutic program” utilizing a cognitive-behavioral approach that includes individual, family and group therapy and psychiatric services. Families are required to have weekly family therapy via telephone as well as on-site visits every eight to twelve weeks. Family support groups and educational seminars are also available.

The Academy is a “secure facility which ensures safety and protection,” while giving students access to numerous educational/recreation activities such as hiking, ropes courses, gardening, skiing and the cultural arts. It is in a rural community located at the base of the beautiful Wasatch Mountains of Utah. There is a variety of landscape, geology and recreational opportunities, along with “unparalleled beauty.”

“The staff possess over 100 years of combined experience successfully treating children and families.”
