Advent Home Learning Center is a non-profit 501 ( c ) ( 3 ) Christian residential boarding school for boys, ages 12-18 and their "Second Chance" education program, for young men, ages 12-23. Incorporated in 1983, this program works with students who are struggling with ADD/ADHD, ODD and who are troubled with academic, behavioral and emotional problems.
Dr. Blondel E. Senior, PhD and his wife, Gloria, began Advent Home Learning Center in a four bedroom house in Florida, but as the need grew, so did the space needed. In 1989, they moved to their current location situated on 220 acres with rolling hills and meadows. AHLC is affiliated and accredited by the State of TN Department of Education (EASEA), CARF, the BBB and ASI. Dr. Blondel is the Director of the program, Shaun Lazarus is the school principal and school Chaplain, Shanel Cordew is the Development Director and Dr. Curtis Castrol is the Residential Care Manager.
The focus for students at AHLC is remedial schooling, vocational training, lifestyle changes and total wellness. AHLC uses the Maturation Therapy Curriculum® in working with the boys, based on the foundations of growth in the areas of physical, mental and emotional, social and spiritual; self regard that emphasizes individuality and responsibility and the building of Interpersonal skills, that include communication, cooperation, compassion and commitment. This curriculum is used throughout the program with staff assistance and in therapy with the students as they attend individual therapy and daily group sessions.
