Dear Colleagues,
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you and provide some insight and information regarding my background and experience. Please contact me directly at any time to answer questions you may have, but in the meantime, I can provide you with some of the basics here.
I was born and raised in southern Vermont and went to Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY for my undergraduate degree. I then moved to the Chicago area for graduate school and completed my doctoral degree at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology. While there, I received extensive training and subsequent employment within an organization which specializes in educating children with severe emotional and behavioral disorders. I was fortunate enough to work with children from kindergarten through high school and was promoted to Clinical Director of the high school program upon my graduation from the training program. I was also part of their residential program which consisted of multiple group homes for boys and girls. Not only did I provide direct services for the residents, but also supervised the clinical staff.
I moved into a private practice setting for several years and continued to focus my efforts on children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral disorders. I was able to expand my clinical expertise to adults, couples and families as well, and treated a wide array of disorders and symptoms.
After a four-year break from the clinical world, at which time I raised my two children and moved back to southern Vermont, I returned to the working world as a School Counselor and Behavior Specialist for the Windham Southwest Supervisory Union in southern Vermont. I returned to my roots and began working with students of all ages focusing on developing and building a new, desperately needed behavior program for the high school.
In addition to working within the school system, I decided to also open a small private practice in response to an overwhelming demand to provide a missing service. After multiple failed attempts and month long waiting list to refer students to outside counselors, I felt an obligation to provide the further assistance they were craving. After networking with additional schools in the area, pediatricians, family practice physicians, insurance providers and other professionals, I was able to quickly build a substantial client base and serve the population in need.
It was pure luck that I came to the Academy at Swift River. I came across an advertisement they had placed searching for a new Clinical Director and I felt like the ad was written for me personally. I tried to respond to them online, but received an automated response that the ad had expired. I followed up with a phone call, was invited for an interview the following day, and the rest is now recent history!
I am so excited by this opportunity and cannot wait to bring a new energy and fresh perspective to their clinical department. I have a great sense of humor, an open door policy and encourage a warm and positive environment. The Academy at Swift River has an amazing staff I am just getting to know, and the services they provide their students are remarkable. I have been welcomed with open arms and look forward to becoming an integral part of the community.
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any other questions you may have. I look forward to working with you in the future and getting to know you as well. Thank you for taking the time to read about me. I hope this provides you with a little glimpse into who I am and what I bring as a new Clinical Director.
