Academy at Swift River, a member of Aspen Education Group and one of the nation's leading therapeutic boarding schools for teens, has announced the appointment of John Marquis to Executive Director, effective May 3, 2010.

Marquis joins Swift River with nearly 30 years of experience working with students. Prior to his current appointment, Marquis served as Dean of Students for a co-ed, independent boarding and day school in Dublin, New Hampshire. For nearly 10 years, he coordinated student life and discipline issues for the 130 students, grades 9-12. He also was Dean of Students for a co-ed, independent boarding and day school of 550 students in Pittsfield, Maine. Prior to this, Marquis was a College Chaplain for 10 years during which time he provided pastoral and personal counseling for students, staff and faculty.

"We are delighted to have John join the team at Academy at Swift River," said Susan Cambria, Eastern Region Vice President for Aspen Education Group. "John has extensive experience as senior administrator for a boarding school, and his counseling background will be a great asset to help Swift River's students and families rediscover positive relationships."

Marquis was recognized as a Ford Fellow by the National Association of Independent Schools in 2007. He attended Andover-Newton Theological School where he studied Clinical Pastoral Education, and the Weston School of Theology where he received his Master of Divinity.

"I look forward to working with the excellent staff of Academy at Swift River and helping teens and their families re-establish healthy relationships," said Marquis.

Located in the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains in Massachusetts, Academy at Swift River is an accredited therapeutic boarding school for teens ages 13-17. Master's level counselors utilize therapeutic best practices grounded in established theories of human development and change.
