The Academy at Sisters' Therapeutic Boarding School hosted Greg Kersten's O.K. Corral Equine Assisted Psychotherapy/Learning Certification Seminar October 7 - 9, 2010. The three-day event covered the basics of Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and was a great introduction to the use of horses for therapeutic assistance and team building. Each year the O.K. Corral travels to different locations worldwide providing training and certification in this innovative approach to wellness and mental health.

Sandy Vaughn, Academy Lodge and Equine Manager, exclaimed, "The certification seminar was a great success!" Thank you to all who participated and to Greg and Jennifer for making the journey to Oregon to present the seminar. Local therapists and mental health providers were in attendance as well as equine boarding staff. Gathering with local professionals in the pristine setting of the Academy at Sisters Julia Williams Arena was a valuable opportunity while learning from world renown Greg Kersten, founder of EAGALA - and more recently - the OK Corral philosophies.

The Academy at Sisters has incorporated the O.K. Corral philosophy and exercises into the Academy's Equine Program with amazing results. Clients' individual treatment plans, including victim recovery, community awareness, as well as family work, are enhanced by using horses for their therapeutic value. O.K. Corral's EAP Program has added an element to the treatment program that compliments and accelerates the individual treatment goals for our clients and their families.

Utilizing horses to accompany other therapeutic techniques is gaining momentum as it introduces therapy and treatment to clients in a "…modality that is less threatening than traditional talk therapy." (Greg Kersten, O.K. Corral Founder) You may call or find out more information about Greg at 866-391-6565 or www.okcorralseries.com.

The Academy at Sisters is a private therapeutic boarding school in Central Oregon for troubled girls and a program of J Bar J Youth Services, a non-profit organization working with at-risk adolescents for over 20 years.
