Academy at Sisters students were pleasantly surprised to learn that they would be attending the Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, Oregon, where they also attended an evening outdoor showing of The Twelfth Night. Teachers, Jessie Russell and Nikki Redenius as a reward for all of the effort the girls put into the entire school term and their recent Academic Portfolio Presentations, planned this surprise trip. Students stayed overnight in the Southern Oregon University dorms and received a College Admissions Tour by the SGA President of the University. On their way back to the Academy, they had lunch at a historic CCC camp.

The students were thrilled to attend the popular festival and see the infamous play in an outdoor setting. This reward for all of their hard work helped boost their confidence even more after the latest Portfolio Presentations. Relevancy of the material learned plays a huge factor in the Academy at Sisters' new Proficiency Based Learning Model. Students had just wrapped up the term in which they took Math, Applied and Life Sciences, Government, Careers, Office and Technology Skills and Language Arts. In Language Arts, they studied Shakespeare and other authors, which made this Ashland Shakespeare Festival Trip all the more worthwhile.
