Academy at Swift River (ASR) is pleased to announce our new Young Adult Transitions and Housing Program.

To address the increasing demand for young adult services, ASR is now offering a unique independent living program to help young adults find success within the community.

Transitions program features include Individual, Family and Group Therapy, Internships, work study or college credit cources and full or part-time employment on/off-campus. Additional opportunities include for community service independent study, life skills training, and Etiquette: introducing societal norms. Residents have free time off-campus and work on self management and regulation.

The young adult housing and efficiency apartments allow for independent living, separate from ASR residence halls. They consist of a small kitchenette with stove, microwave and refrigerator, entertainment via TV, DVD and personal computer, common areas for comfort, relaxation or private study. The apartments have a private entrance with reduced staff supervision and open-campus for leisure and recreation. Transportation to off campus employment, events and schooling are available.

As one ASR parent stated, "Thank you for employing such outstanding professionals with such great character and strong ommitment to take care of my son and our family in our time of need."

ASR Young Adult Transitions is appropriate for students age 17.5-19, who are engaged in highschool or recently graduated and ready for some college courses or part time employment. Typically, they have experienced social and/or emotional challenges that have interferred with their success and have some history of Residential Treatment or participation in a Therapeutic Boarding School. They are interested in learning self-management skills and are motivated to continue treatment with an assigned therapist. Students must be able to participate safely in a community college program or employment in the community.

With this new transition, students utilize on-the-job placements in business or industry with reduced supervision, and desire working toward self-advocacy, independence and healthy living.

The Academy at Swift River (ASR) is an accredited college preparatory therapeutic boarding school for adolescents ages 13-17. The program focuses on helping teens get back on track by restoring relationships, rediscovering academic success, and preparing them for the challenges of adolescence and young adulthood.
