Located in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains of New York, Adirondack Peak Experience (APEX) is the only wilderness treatment program in the northeast to accept students via professional transport. APEX focuses on the needs of struggling adolescent boys who are defiant to their families, and others in authority, and need immediate intervention to create change for the better. We are currently accepting referrals for new students.

Aaron Rumsey is the primary therapist at APEX and is licensed as a mental health counselor in New York State. Aaron brings knowledge and experience in the field of addiction and mental health treatment. His primary focus as a therapist working in the wilderness setting is aimed at providing intensive and quality care to our students. Aaron's ensures this level of treatment in large part through his constant collaborative working stance with field staff and family therapist, Sara View LCSW. It is Aaron's belief is that only through providing a family with consistent and effective support and learning opportunities to they have the chance to see themselves make real change.

The APEX Family Therapist, Sara K. View, LCSW received her Master's in Social Work from the National Catholic School of Social Service and simultaneously obtained a Certificate in Domestic Violence Policy from the University of Colorado at Denver. Sara has worked with survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, youth at risk and families coping with crisis through county agencies, not-for-profit programs, wilderness therapy programs and in private practice. Sara brings to the APEX team a wealth of experience in working with challenging family systems.

The paramount experience for the family at APEX is the mid-stay visit. By immersing herself into the family system, Sara spends two days with the family in the wilderness environment, providing them the opportunity to re-discover the source of their resiliency and bring healing to relationships. She assist parents put in to action what they have been practicing and learning with her through the weekly family webinars and support groups. APEX does not just focus on healing, inspiring and preparing the individual. By focusing on each family, APEX works to heal, inspire and prepare each family to ensure lasting change.

About Adirondack Peak Experience
APEX is a short-term (8-12 weeks) adventure and wilderness treatment program for adolescent males with externalizing behaviors, most notably oppositional-defiance, attention deficit, and issues of anger and disrespect for self and others. Due to the prevalence of substance and alcohol abuse amongst this population, APEX also provides treatment for co-occurring substance abuse disorders that do not require acute levels of care or detoxification. APEX is the only adventure and wilderness program in the Northeast which will accept youth who require professional transport services due to unwillingness to actively participate in treatment. APEX will run at a maximum capacity of nine students through this winter, with anticipated expansion in the spring of 2014.
