DESERT HILLS
Center for Youth and Families
Tucson, Arizona
800-367-6313
Review by: Linda Shaffer

Desert Hills Center for Youth and Families in Tucson, Arizona, has been serving children since 1973. Its continuum of mental health services for children and adolescents includes:

  • Acute inpatient hospitalization.

  • Partial hospital and day treatment programs for teens.

  • Sub-Acute residential treatment programs for children & adolescents.

  • Specialty treatment services in the areas of medical/psychiatric disorders, sexual and physical abuse, and alcohol and other drug abuse.

  • An array of outpatient services including individual, family and group therapies and free community support groups.

Desert Hills began as the Jay McCaffery School for emotionally disturbed boys. Today, this center is accredited by the JCAHO, the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, and is Champus approved. They provide two campuses on 50 landscaped and natural desert acres where they offer a variety of education, therapeutic and recreation services.

With almost no advertising, Desert Hills referrals have come from 30 states as the word has gotten around about the program's successes. They report their staff retention is excellent.
